A BIT ABOUT ME

My name is Jodie Curtis and I'm a photographer based in East London.

My work is mainly of protests and events in London, but I also create mixed media images by painting on top of my images.

I decided to pursue photography as a career after studying Film and Fine Art and deciding to combine them.

MY PROJECT

My project, The Pink Panopticon, focuses on illustrating the dangers women face in the modern day by combining it with folklore.

Every image looks at a different scenario: having a stalker, medical negligence, domestic abuse and others.

For this project I took these dangers and selected creatures from folklore whose characteristics or stories aligned with them, combining them through painting them on top of my images to blend man and creature together, distorting the idea of what an attacker could look like in order to represent them as something other than or less than human.
